CORRECTION OF INVERTED NIPPLES (RETRACTED NIPPLES, INVAGINATED NIPPLES, FLAT NIPPLES, NIPPLE CORRECTION) IN BAMBERG

Unilateral or bilateral inverted nipples which point outward only when stimulated by touch or cold are fairly common and occur in both men and women. They are linked to a congenital malformation where the milk ducts are abnormally short.

In some women, the short milk ducts can be lengthened in a non-surgical treatment using a small vacuum device (Nipplette®). In a consultation in our clinic in Bamberg, we can determine whether this option suits you or not. Inverted nipples can sometimes be corrected by breastfeeding.   

In most cases, however, inverted nipples can be corrected only by surgical intervention. Through a small incision at the base of the nipple, the milk ducts are severed and the inverted nipple is pulled outwardly. This procedure is uncomplicated and can be performed on an outpatient basis. The patient can opt for local anaesthesia or IV sedation (twilight sleep). Please keep in mind that after this surgery, breastfeeding is no longer possible. Therefore, we recommend postponing the correction of inverted nipples until family planning is completed.
