During an arm tuck, loose skin is trimmed and tightened through an incision on the back portion of inner side of the arm.  The procedure is usually uncomplicated, but does unfortunately result in a scar in the armpit and often also from the armpit down to the elbow area. These scars usually fade quickly and are inconspicuous when the arms are in a normal position, but remain visible on a closer look. However, most patients feel it is a small price to pay for the attractive, permanent result of tight, firm upper arms.

Usually, arm lifts are performed on an outpatient basis, under IV sedation. It is important that a compression garment is worn for about 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery. After about one week, patients can return to activities such as desk work that do not require much physical exertion. Sporting activity should be avoided for about three weeks.
