GYNECOMASTIA SURGERY (MALE BREAST, MALE BREAST REDUCTION) IN BAMBERG
Gynecomastia is the benign enlargement of breast tissue in males. This condition is far more common that generally assumed, can affect one or both breasts, and is often a source of psychological distress. Enlarged male breasts may arise from a hormone imbalance, as a result of certain medical conditions, as a side-effect of medication, excess weight, or (very rarely) breast cancer. In most cases, gynecomastia is caused by a harmless predisposition and can be satisfactorily by means of liposuction or another procedure.
The male breast – just as the female breast – consists of soft fatty tissue and firm glandular tissue. Often, gynecomastia involves slack breasts with sagging nipples.
Depending on the breast consistence, various surgical procedures are available.
In most cases, simple liposuction is sufficient. However, if the patient has a palpable breast lump, it won’t be removed by liposuction but by surgery – normally through a small incision at the lower edge of the nipple. If the gynecomastia has existed for a long time and the breast is sunken and slack, breast lifting surgery may be necessary to remove excessive glandular tissue, fat and skin and raise the nipple.
The techniques are essentially the same as those used for female breast lifting. For a successful result, it is essential to wear a compression garment for two weeks following surgery (or even longer, depending on the procedure used).
